With its latest opening at 64 Bathurst St at Wellington St West in downtown Toronto’s Fashion District, its fifth opening this Summer, the Dark Horse Espresso Bar chain of premium coffee cafes numbers over 20 locations, in Toronto and surrounding areas. Introduced as a neighbourhood café in Toronto’s Leslieville area in 2006, the chain counts multiple locations with a menu featuring espresso-based beverages, signature coffee blends, rotating single-origin coffees, specialty matcha drinks, freshly baked pastries, sandwiches and salads. Max Daviau, co-founder of the Big League Food Company food platform, a company introduced in 2023 to scale and acquire emerging food brands, several potential Dark Horse locations are presently under discussion. The brand is expected to add six locations next year in the Toronto core area. He adds that a search is still underway for third and fourth quarter 2027 openings. Dark Horse continues to seek highly visible units in the 1200 to 2000 square foot range and Chris Wanzel at Urban Reform Realty is handling the site selection.
