This week, franchisee Chelsey Wilde celebrates the grand opening of the Good Earth Coffeehouse on the main floor of Royal University Hospital at 103 Hospital Dr in Saskatoon. Opened in late April and operating 24/7, the 480 square foot coffeehouse provides hospital staff, patients, and visitors with a welcoming space to enjoy ethically sourced coffee and fresh, wholesome food. Expanding its presence in Canadian healthcare settings, Ms Wilde also operates the brand’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital café in Saskatoon. In addition, late last week, Good Earth Coffeehouse opened in the University of Alberta Hospital in the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre in Edmonton. Introduced in Calgary in the early 1990s and franchising since 2005, Good Earth Coffeehouse is a network of authentic coffeehouses focused on providing unique customer experiences through the combination of a distinct coffeehouse environment with social and environmental responsibility. President, COO Gerry Docherty adds that new locations are currently under development in Burnaby, Canmore and the VIVO Rec Centre in Calgary. The chain continues its search for prime locations across Canada and is particularly interested in the education and health sectors. The size required is flexible, depending on the opportunity, and are up to about 1600 to 1800 square feet and patios are welcomed. Good Earth has retained several companies to assist with identifying and securing sites. Doug Basarovich at Greenwood Realty and Stan Boniferro are handling the search in BC’s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, Michael Kehoe of Fairfield Commercial Real Estate is responsible for the Prairies, and Warren Smagaren of Warren E Smagaren Consulting is responsible for the greater Toronto area, Southwestern Ontario and the Halifax market.
