Earlier in June, tea merchant DAVIDsTEA Inc. re-established the brand’s presence in Durham Region as part of its continued retail expansion across Canada. The new 1180 square foot location in the Oshawa Centre features DAVIDsTEA’s full assortment of loose-leaf teas, teaware, and seasonal collections, and will bring a new, full Tea Bar offering, containing exclusive TeaPop lemonades, and a dedicated organic matcha menu, including the popular Organic Cherry Swirl Matcha. The first of four planned openings, reinforcing the chain’s retail-led growth strategy, another unit is scheduled to open in Square One in Mississauga in July. “Our strategy is clear: retail is the growth engine,” Sarah Segal, CEO and Chief Brand Officer stated in late April. “Each new store builds brand awareness in its respective market and drives e-commerce and wholesale channel sales along with a compounding effect as our footprint grows. Supported by strong category tailwinds, including wellness trends and the rise of the demand and interest in the matcha category, we are well positioned to begin scaling that opportunity in fiscal 2026. Our expansion plan should accelerate momentum through new store openings slated for Oshawa and Mississauga in Ontario, combined with our return to Edmonton and Vancouver, raising our store count to 25 by the year end.” In its Fiscal year 2025 that ended in late January 2026, sales were $61-million(Cdn) and comparable store sales were up by 6.8 percent, reflecting continued consumer demand for premium tea. The company-owned DAVID’s TEA stores operate in malls, street front, lifestyle and outlet centres in units in the 500 to 1000 square foot range.
