Last weekend, the Toronto-based smashburger chain RUDY opened at 287 N. Front St in Belleville, bringing the ten-year-old chain to 16 restaurants, with another unit opening shortly in Huntsville in Muskoka, the popular Ontario vacation area. The brand, which initially developed its cult following on College St. in Toronto, opens as a key tenant in a new retail development that is now fully leased. At the high-traffic site, RUDY joins a quick-service restaurant lineup immediately adjacent to Tahini’s and Jersey Mike’s, between Starbucks, Mucho Burrito, Arby’s, Healthy Planet and the Holiday Inn Hotel. The landlord was represented by Dave Marino at Marino Locations Ltd., who worked in close collaboration with Juan Angeles of The Behar Group Realty, who continues to actively seek additional suitable retail sites for RUDY’s ongoing expansion. Franchising since 2024, RUDY is recognized for its classic, no-nonsense approach to burgers that has become a local favorite for its signature ‘Rude Dude’ smash burgers, crispy fries, and comfort-food vibe. In addition to the smashed cheeseburgers, the menu includes fried chicken sandwiches, fries and milkshakes, all made to order. The chain targets end caps and highly visible street front locations in the 1100 to 1800 square foot range with at least 18 feet of frontage. Locations with a drive-thru option require 1500 to 2000 square feet.
