Eggs Up Grill has strengthened its position as the largest actively franchising breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant brand in the United States after opening its 110th location in Spears Creek in South Carolina earlier in July. The milestone capped a strong second quarter that also marked the chain’s 22nd consecutive quarter of positive same-restaurant sales growth. During the quarter, the company opened four new restaurants, secured eight additional franchise commitments and surpassed 200 restaurants either open or in development. More than 60 percent of franchisees now own or are developing multiple locations, reflecting confidence in the brand’s expansion model. Highlights included the first Eggs Up Grill opened by hospitality operator Metz Group in Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania, launching a broader northeast development partnership. Existing franchisees also continued to expand, with Ken Bates committing to five more restaurants and Uber Quezada signing for a second location less than a year after opening his first. The company also reported an 8.1 percent increase in average unit volume year over year. Chris Skodras introduced the Eggs Up Grill concept in Pawleys Island, South Carolina in 1997 and currently there are locations in eleven states. Eggs Up Grill operates in neighbourhood centres in high growth suburbs. End-cap units in the 2800 to 3200 square foot range are required and outdoor seating is preferred.
