Flip Flop Shops Canada has secured a flagship location in CF Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke. It is a permanent location of about 1100 square feet and is expect to open in September. It is the third location in the area in seven months, and the Master Franchisors Andrew Grovestein and Pete Gombocz are planning more expansion across Ontario. Last year, the chain opened units in Vaughan Mills in Vaughan, north of Toronto, and in the Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills in greater Toronto’s northwestern quadrant and several other locations are in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The lifestyle concept specializes in the beach, surf and relaxation footwear and features over 90 widely recognized flip flop and leisure brands including Birkenstock, Oofos, Havaianas, Crocs, etc. Linda Johansen-James at International Retail Group has been retained to handle the search for both locations and franchise operators in Canada, and reports that plans call for permanent locations and pop-ups that could lead to permanent inline spaces. In addition to targeting malls, the specialty retailer will also explore pop-ups at events, at lakes and possibly resort properties as a great way to gain exposure and advertise the brand in the Canadian marketplace. Traditionally, the permanent Flip Flop Shops will locate in establishes shopping centres and malls, including outlet centres, lifestyle and urban centres. The target size for the traditional Flip Flop Shop is in an 800 to 1200 square foot range.
