Earlier in the week, Eat Up Canada and Open Concept Hospitality launched MightyBird, a new quick-casual crispy chicken concept in the Foodie Aisle at Union Station in downtown Toronto. Designed to satisfy the cravings of crispy chicken lovers and indulgent foodies, the 250-square foot unit features a chef-curated menu of signature chicken marinated in rich buttermilk and cooked to crispy, golden perfection. Using fresh, premium, locally sourced, halal chicken, the menu includes a selection of unique chicken sandwiches such as The Mighty O.G., Crispy Chicken Classic, Nashville Hot, Banh Mi, the Piri-Piri Glazed and a plant-based protein option is also available.  There is crispy boneless chicken pieces with signature sauce, Crispy Chicken Plates, Southern Crispy Chicken and various sides. Chicken tacos and chicken and waffles are coming soon.  “We couldn’t think of a better place to reach Torontonians, visitors, sports fans and concert goers than Union Station,” said George Heos, co-founder of Eat Up Canada. “Located in the Foodie Aisle on the lower retail level by the underground entrance to Scotiabank Arena, MightyBird offers elevated grab-and-go counter-service in Toronto’s busiest transportation hub.”  Alex Gerzon, Eat Up Canada’s co-founder, added that plans are underway to expand the MightyBird brand across Ontario, including a quick-casual 1500 square foot location in Burlington with an expanded menu opening later in mid-December. Future units are also planned for Kingston and Barrie in the Spring.  A franchise concept, the MightyBird restaurants are in highly-visible 1500 to 2000 square foot inline or end cap locations with about 20 feet of frontage in high traffic shopping centres. Mike Sabetti at CBRE Ltd. is handling the chain’s site selection in Ontario and Heos is handling the search outside of the province.
