In June, the 18-year-old Mabel’s Bakery opens in the former Riviere Bakery, an 1800 square foot street front location at 576 College St in Toronto’s Little Italy. It will be the chain’s fifth full bakery featuring home style baked goods made from scratch, prepared foods, ready meals and artisan breads and cheeses. Mabel’s uses only the highest quality ingredients, choosing local or organic options whenever possible, with no preservatives or artificial flavouring. The chain also operates a mini-store on Samor Rd in North York that opened a year ago. Introduced on Roncesvalles Ave. in Toronto in 2008 by Lorraine Hawley and husband Bob Warburton, all of the bakeries are in the downtown Toronto area and are generally up to about 2000 square feet in size.
