Jacques Kavafian, Founder, President and CEO of the ten-year-old Fresh Burger chain of quick service burger restaurants, confirms that the quick casual chain will be opening a 2300 square foot end cap location at the mixed-use 155 King St. North building in Waterloo in southwestern Ontario.  Located in steps from Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Waterloo and with strong pedestrian traffic, the unit is expected to open in early February 2024.   This will be the ninth location for the chain of franchised restaurants and Kavafian emphasizes that the chain continues to source franchisees and sites adding that company is increasing its size requirements for new locations, Fresh Burger is now sourcing locations in the 2000 square foot range, up from its previous 1500 square foot needs. The company is also sourcing conversion opportunities.  Fresh Burger features a menu of hamburgers made with fresh 100 percent Certified Angus beef that is ground daily along with fresh, Belgian-style fries and poutine.  “We are seeing a significantly higher franchising activity in our brand,” said Kavafian.  “As a result, we expect that we will be signing two to three more franchisees before the end of the year and four or five more franchisees in 2024.”  This could result in four to six new locations in 2024 and the target area continues to be the Golden Horseshoe region, from Barrie to Niagara and from Oshawa to Kitchener/Waterloo.
