Marugame Udon is a globally recognized Japanese restaurant chain specializing in freshly prepared Sanuki-style udon noodles, handmade daily and served with a variety of traditional toppings, tempura, and rice dishes. Founded in Japan in 2000, the brand has grown to more than 1,000 locations across Asia, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Known for its open-kitchen concept, authentic flavours, and affordable dining experience, the restaurants have become a popular destination for both quick meals and casual dining. The quick casual chain entered the North American market in 2017 with a location in Hawaii and in 2024, entered the Canadian market with a location on Beatty St in downtown Vancouver. A franchise concept, Marugame Udon currently has three locations in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto and plans additional Canadian expansion. Units are expected to open in Fall/Winter of this year in Richmond Centre in Richmond and in West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton. Both locations are in the 2300 square foot range. With a present focus on the larger markets in B.C. and Alberta, Marugame Udon is sourcing locations of at least 800 square feet in enclosed malls and highly visible units in the 2500 square foot range.
